Absurd

A deceitful man, so humanly selfish

Found little contentment in living

As for him to live, he knew he must perish

And so he began evading

He ensnared death in his own chains

Gulled the underground goddess

He lived to touch a tender age

But soon the all-father caught him

Our humane hero was eternally cursed

Set to scale a mountain

Heaving a boulder as he traversed

Only to have it roll down again

For every time he climbed the hill

The Stars seemed to push against him

Forcing the boulder back down until

The silent response was deafening

Yet the boulder he continued to burden

As his final form of rebuke

He returns despite being certain

That this is a curse he can’t dupe

Still he smiles as he ascends once more

Glancing up towards the skies

There will be no response and of this he is sure

But there is a glint of ease in his eyes

For he knows that by accepting his fate

He revolts a final time

Freedom now synonymous with his name

And freedom he did find

So our hero finally found himself filled

By the struggles of his curse

And others likewise, with their own hills

Must still be thinking, “how absurd.”
